Trained nurses pivotal for quality healthcare, says Director Nursing HMC Awal Khan
Part of continues professional development Eight nurses of Medical Teaching Institute MTI- Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar have attended a three days simulation based workshop for healthcare staff in critical care & High Dependency Units (HDU) organized by the School of Nursing and Midwifery Agha Khan University Karachi in collaboration with the Department of Health, Government of Sindh. This workshop was attended by the nursing staff working in HDU from Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta and Karachi. MTI-HMC represented Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by nominating eight male and female nurses from Medical, Surgical, Cardiac and Covid intensive care unit of the hospital.
Navid Ali who attended the workshop and has been serving as a male nurse at HMC since 2014 he is of the view that the nurses do more than care for individuals, their round-the-clock presence, observation skills, and vigilance allow doctors to make better diagnoses and propose better treatments. "Many lives have been saved because an attentive nurse picked upon early warning signs of an upcoming crisis like cardiac arrest or respiratory failure even during pandemic", he added. He said that the contents of the workshop were very beneficial, especially learning modern techniques of handling ICUs . "I am also planning to share the knowledge with my other colleagues working in ICUs at HMC”, he added.
Director Nursing HMC Awal Khan said that the nurses are the one who deal with the patients on initial stages and it is very important to provide them opportunities to enhance their skills time to time. "MTI-HMC has 450 nurses serving the community in healthcare", he added.
